Nine amazing authors and fourteen books in a wide variety of categories. This the idea for the Indie Author Giveaway was born. Suddenly I no longer felt like “just a self published author.” I was an Indie Author and I found myself loving this community that I wanted to help promote and support. They get up earlier and stay up inhumanly late to write, edit and promote their labors of love. Like me, a lot of them have full time jobs and families. This time, I found a community of Indie Authors. But the more I looked into traditional publishing, the more I was convinced it wasn’t for me.įlash forward four years and I decided to finally put out another book. Anytime I told someone about my book, it was with the caveat that I’d self published as if there was something inferior about it.

And that's okay too, needing to put your masterpiece on hold and just be you for the moment.Four years ago when I published my first book, I didn’t know what to call myself. It's a sign that you need to find you again, take a breath and be you the human being, not you the author. It's ok, it doesn't make you a bad book mom or dad. You will smile and nod (no matter how offended or mad you are about the topic their leading on your behalf), and find a way to get out of that conversation and to the bar as quickly as possible.ĭon't worry, every single author feels this way at some point. You will go to parties and listen to a barrage of 'you know what you should do?', 'you know what you should write?', or 'you know what your book needs?' This will come from people that have never opened your novel, but are experts in the field of who you are and what your book is about. You're going to expect 5,000 reviews to come from a promotion, only to find that not a single person came through for you. You're going to get frustrated, and exhausted, and sick of every single aspect of marketing.
